Memorial.

“Let’s give it up for these World War II Veterans,” a man shouted at the spectators gathered at our town’s Memorial Day Parade. “They are 101 and 102 years old!”

I waited for their car to drive slowly drive by, to get a glimpse of these living members of history. My eyes filled, unexpectedly, as I saw their smiling faces, waving to the crowds.

I thought of all that their 101 and 102 years had seen. All that they had been through to get to that moment.
