A House Made of Bricks

At dinner tonight, my kids were reminiscing about our three days without power way back in August…a lifetime ago it seems. Eight weeks later and all of the inconveniences of a life without electricity had disappeared from their memories and they were left recounting all of the glamour and wishing it might happen again…soon.

The conversation soon turned to discussing trees falling, since we lost a rather large tree branch during the August hurricane. “Well if a tree falls on our house, we can just go live at Mimi’s,” my youngest daughter Rose exclaimed-her idea of paradise.

“Well, Mimi’s house won’t be standing for long either,” Adi mentioned casually.

Interested in where her mind was going, I asked, “Why won’t Mimi’s house be standing?”

“Because her house isn’t made of brick,” Adi said matter-of-factly.

And there you have it. Life is a fairytale and everything we need to know can be boiled down to one of our favorite stories.

  1. Credit to you guys that you made a time that I’m sure sometimes felt miserable, a sweet memory for them. I miss those kind of whimsical conversations we can have with little ones. Although in my experience, discussions with daughters only grow more wonderful with the years!

  2. It’s funny, I’ve been thinking a lot about a big bad wolf these days. He’s doing a lot of huffing and puffing, too. I’m with Adi. We all need brick houses these days. She’s so literate!
