I became a teacher because I wanted to change the world. I wanted to inspire and help shape little people who would grow up to be big people who also changed the world for the better. As a classroom teacher, I quickly realized that it was my attitude that set the tone for the kids surrounding me. So each day, despite how my morning may have started or what inside or outside stress may be nagging at my soul, I made a conscious effort to choose joy.
Fast forward a bunch of years later and I found myself as a literacy specialist and later a literacy coach. While joy was still my choice of the day, I realized it was harder to spread that joy as my community was all of a sudden much larger, the stresses of education much greater. I found myself questioning daily, where is the joy?
I have made this my mission-to inspire and find joy every day. Here’s to day 1.
